This historic Trading Post and Log Cabin and adjacent Adobe House is part of Taos Goji Eco Lodge Retreat & organic goji farm. Nestled in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains it’s 11 mile north of Taos and about 25 miles to north Red River and Taos Ski Areas. Ideally located you can still enjoy the mountain views, aspens and cottonwood trees, silence, and bright stars. There are plenty of scenic hikes around,vmountain bike roads, cross country spots, fishing & driving distance to natural hot springs.

The space

During winter and good snow conditions, cross country and downhill ski conditions are great! New Mexico is blessed with more sun than most other states. Imagine skiing the mountains and feeling the warmth of the sun.

Taos Goji Eco Lodge and Farm is nestled in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in close proximity to Taos (11 miles) and the Taos Ski Valley and Red River (30 minutes) and The Wild River wilderness area.

We are dog friendly, no cats please due to allergies. Please check if you would like to bring more than one dog.

Pet Rules:
Please keep your pet off furniture and attended at all times on the property. Pick up after your pooch and keep your dog on a leash on our land. If you leave please crate your dog in the cabin, granted s/he doesn’t get anxious and disturb the neighboring guests.

The Artist’s residence is a newly renovated historical adobe house with an adjacent log studio sits on 40 acres of an organic berry farm. and is surrounded by national forest and is part of an eco-lodge.

The 500 sq ft log cabin room that is part of the house, is a great place to socialize, watch movies and play games. It also provides an extra eating or sleeping area. Claw foot bathtub and shower in the bathroom. This adobe is Tuscan inspired with mix of new stainless steel appliances with original details, dishwasher, the laundry room is within close proximity. There is a sauna next door by the outside bathrooms and showers.

The house has two queen size beds, and two twin bed. The sun room provides passive solar gain, a beautiful and efficient fire place with a heatilator and additional air heat pumps, reverse refrigeration, provide efficient heat, powered by solar. House is in close proximity to hiking paths, fishing streams and skiing.

Free wi-fi, fiber optics, provide great speed internet.

Other eco-lodge cabins are also for rent on the property, with separate bath, kitchen, is available for additional people.

The nearby log cabins housed writer Aldous Huxley who wrote Means and Ends here and also built an outhouse that is still standing. We found water colors by D.H. Lawrence and correspondence between Frieda Lawrence and the publishers in the attic. Horse trail rides throughout the San Cristobal Canyon is also available, please ask for information.

We keep goats and our chickens provide fresh ranch eggs. A play ground is available for families with children. Pets are negotiable, absolutely no smoking inside.

Taos is only 11 miles away and the Taos Ski Valley and Red River only 30 minutes away. D.H. Lawrence ranch is up the road and the historical Lama Foundation is located in a nearby community.

Taos Ski Valley reminds us of the Swiss/French/Austrian founders’ roots blended with the traditions and customs of the local Hispanic and Pueblo Indian cultures. Being the home of extreme skiing, this is just not a resort for experts, with many beginner and intermediate runs. The ski school is one of the nation’s best. It also has an excellent children’s day care and ski facility, both skiers and snowboarders are welcome.

Taos is home to more than twenty sites on the National Register of Historic Places. The Taos Pueblo has been occupied for nearly a millennium and is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in the Unites States. The Taos Pueblo was added as an Unesco World Heritage Site in 1992 as one of the most significant historical cultural landmarks in the world;

There are many ways to explore art in Taos. Taos is an old art colony since 1899. Some of the artists’ studios have been preserved and may be viewed by visitors. Many of the historic sites are homes and studios of artists, including the Mabel Dodge Luhan House,Eanger Irving Couse House and Studio, Joseph Henry Sharp Studios, the Leon Gaspard House, the Couse/Sharp Historic Site and the Ernest Martin Hennings House. On Ledoux Street, just south of the Taos Plaza, are the Ernest L. Blumenschein House and Harwood House.

There are three Art Museums in Taos: Harwood Museum of Art, Taos Art Museum and Millicent Rogers Museum that provide art from the pueblo Native Americans, Taos Society of Artists and modern and contemporary artists of the Taos art colony. The town has numerous art galleries and there are several houses of the Taos Society of Artists.

Guest access

Taos Goji is located on 40 acres and surrounded by national forest,with plenty of space to wander. There is a playground outside for guests with children, picnic tables, hammocks, and a gas grill. During the summer, guests have access to our organic vegetable garden in exchange for some weeding or a good word. We also have fresh eggs from our chickens available seasonally. We have farm animals. i.e. chickens, alpacas and a goat A small laundry facility has a coin operated washer/dryer for guests. The sun and clean mountain air are both delicious and free.

Other things to note

There is a wood stove in each cabin, fully equipped kitchen and bath. The Eco-Lodge is now powered by solar and all cabins except the Artist’s Retreat are heated by air heat pumps. The hideaway Artist’s Retreat is heated by propane, electric heaters and a wood fire stove.

Fresh organic eggs and veggies available seasonally. Cabins and tipis are cleaned with biodegradable cleaning products (mostly vinegar) and fragrance-free and eco friendly detergents are used on the linens. Our delicious drinking water comes from our deep wells. Most bedding is organic and we recycle. Perfectly inbetween, we are 20 miles to Taos Ski Valley and 20 miles to Red River Ski Area.

The lodge and farm remains a quiet, rustic getaway from modern life. There are ten cabins on the property, glamping venues, i.e. tipis and a bunk house plus a 1600 sq ft open barn, and a 500 sq feet log cabin that serves as an extra indoor event space.

The land and contains a seasonal stream, two ponds, many cottonwood, pine, and aspen trees, five acres of goji plants, seasonal vegetable gardens, a greenhouse, fruit trees, a children’s playground, flower gardens, chickens, goats and lambs.

The land and its surroundings offer a host of quiet walking areas. Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, we are surrounded by the Kit Carson National Forest, which offers lots of walking or cross country trails. 10 miles to Taos, 20 miles to Taos Ski Valley, and 20 miles to Red River Ski Area.

We are located in the countryside, which means lots of quiet and starry nights. Cell reception is limited, and sometimes requires a walk down the road. Wifi or fiber optics is speedy and efficient and is provided in the cabins, but can be nonexistent during electrical outage (a rare occurrence). We are not a hotel. There is no front office or permanent lodge staff. These are clean, green and rustic country cabins, a perfect place for creative individuals who crave a break from the bustle of civilization, a romantic getaway, or to bring your children to appreciate the wandering chickens, goats and lambs and country living without TV or computer games. Don’t panic, Taos is only 15 minutes away!
