The space

The D.H. Lawrence Cabin is located atTaos Goji Eco Lodge and Farm Retreat. Our cabins are nestled in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains and surrounded by national forest. Our charming & quaint, historic log cabins and casitas are in close proximity to Taos (11 miles) and the Taos Ski Valley and Red River (ca: 20 miles).

Part of an eco lodge, this cabin sits on 40 acres among seasonal creeks, ponds, aspens and cottonwood trees, organic berry orchards and great views of the mountains.

The cabin is a studio and can sleep two people in a queen bed.

We do have a small farm cafe, generally opening on Memorial Day and closing on Labor Day. We also serve pastries, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, yoghurt, berries and fritata for a suggested donation. We also offer a farm breakfast at 8am and a farm lunch at 1:30 am Monday to Friday with out wwoofers (willing workers on organic farms) for an extra fee. Please give us 24 hours notice.

A seasonal vegetable garden and chickens provide produce and fresh ranch eggs to renters. A play ground is available for families with children. Nearby are opportunities for hiking, fishing, lama trekking, horseback trails. hot air ballooning, and natural hot springs are within driving distance.

San Cristobal is a small village and our eco lodge was built at the turn of last century. Aldous Huxley lived and wrote in our cabins and we found water colors from D.H. Lawrence and letters to the publishers from Frieda Lawrence in the attic of one of the cabins.

We are surrounded by national forest and a small river flows from the mountains and into part of the village.

Taos is only 11 miles away and the Taos Ski Valley and Red River only about 30 minutes away. Taos Ski Valley reminds us of the Swiss/French/Austrian founders’ roots blended with the traditions and customs of the local Hispanic and Pueblo Indian cultures. Being the home of extreme skiing, this is just not a resort for experts, with many beginner and intermediate runs. The ski school is one of the nation’s best. It also has an excellent children’s day care and ski facility, both skiers and snowboarders are welcome.

Taos is home to more than twenty sites on the National Register of Historic Places. The Taos Pueblo has been occupied for nearly a millennium and is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in the Unites States. The Taos Pueblo was added as an Unesco World Heritage Site in 1992 as one of the most significant historical cultural landmarks in the world;

There are many ways to explore art in Taos. Taos is an old art colony since 1899. Some of the artists’ studios have been preserved and may be viewed by visitors. Many of the historic sites are homes and studios of artists, including the Mabel Dodge Luhan House,Eanger Irving Couse House and Studio, Joseph Henry Sharp Studios, the Leon Gaspard House, the Couse/Sharp Historic Site and the Ernest Martin Hennings House. On Ledoux Street, just south of the Taos Plaza, are the Ernest L. Blumenschein House and Harwood House.

There are three Art Museums in Taos: Harwood Museum of Art, Taos Art Museum and Millicent Rogers Museum that provide art from the pueblo Native Americans, Taos Society of Artists and modern and contemporary artists of the Taos art colony. The town has numerous art galleries and there are several houses of the Taos Society of Artists.

5.0 "Very Private Place"

This place is very private. You have your own log cabin and separate entrance. You have all the basic amenities. It is clean. The old heater works well. You need it in March when the temperature drops to 35 F or lower overnight.

5.0 "Peace and Quiet Cabin"

The cabin was ready when we arrived and we simply moved in with no hassles. Since this location is somewhat off the grid, you'll want to arrive during daylight hours. And, the whole point of staying here is to be in a quiet place where you can see the stars at night, make your own meals, and not have to answer the phone. My wife and I recommend this cabin for anyone looking for peace and quiet. And, if you want to explore that many things to do in the area, you are close enough to town to get supplies, visit the Taos Pueblo, or enjoy a great meal. And, when they have their garden going, you can get a variety of fresh vegies that taste great.

5.0 "Great place and location"

We really enjoyed our stay in the D.H. Lawrence cabin. It's small, but had everything we needed to feel cozy and relaxed, including a comfy bed. It served us great as a tranquil little home base for all of our hiking/biking day trips for the few days we were there. Great star gazing at night.

5.0 "Incredible Place"

Sia and Eric's place was incredible! We booked a little last-minute and eventually ended up needing a second cabin and they were able to accommodate us smoothly. Directions to the place were perfect, we had no issue finding the farm. When we arrived, we were directed to the lovely cabin, and it was just perfect. Very "rustic" and antique, yet well-kept and loved. I thought the rusticness added to the authenticity of the farm experience, and the historic significance of the place. The farm itself is a wonderful plot of land with a small road for evening walks, a playground, chicken/goat coop, outdoor kitchen, laundry facilities, etc.. We also were fortunate enough to arrive when Sia's daughter and her family came into town for their summer visit and we really enjoyed meeting everyone. We felt like we were part of the family. We felt absolutely welcomed, everything was clean, we had everything we needed... it was a perfect experience and we plan on going back next month. Love, love, love it and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay off the beaten path when visiting Taos.

5.0 "Better Than a Hotel"

So quaint and homey. Quiet environment depending on guest next door. So much better than a hotel. Parking a large truck was a trick. The versatility of the heating choices & having wood ready at the door was especially nice. The towels, linens & bed was a marvelous surprise - so comfortable - 5 star

5.0 "Perfect Retreat"

Hmmm... this was the perfect writing retreat. On the first rainy night, my dog and I curled up by the fire. We walked everyday along the quiet country roads and hiked through the forest. I worked at the table or in the comfy lounge chair or read in bed. It was so quiet. There was always hot water. The kitchen was well equipped. I only had one visit my first morning to gift me some fresh farm eggs. It was perfect for my reclusive nature and I got lots of work done just as I had hoped. Thanks. Rick

I such a wonderful stay at Sia's cabin. It was the perfect place to stay for an extended weekend in Taos. The kitchen was stocked with all the basic essentials including things like cooking oil and salt. The bed was really comfortable. It was lovely to see the sunrise from the beautiful property and walk out at night and be immersed in the stars! I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to go back myself! Thanks Sia!

5.0 "Peaceful setting "

We really enjoyed saying in the D.H. Lawrence cabin over Christmas. It's such a peaceful setting and the snow made it all the more cozy. We were able to cook meals with the kitchen supplies provided which was nice. We stayed warm with the wall unit and the wood stove. The shower was great! Our dachshund even enjoyed the week long stay and our walks down the quiet road. We'd definitely stay there again and would love to see the farm and area in the summer.

5.0 "Quiet and Secluded Cabin"

Our stay at the cabin was just what we needed - quiet, secluded and restful. The cabin was clean, stocked with the necessary kitchen supplies, and the wood stove was a nice touch to the overall ambience. Although it felt off-the-grid, the cabin boasted a modern furnace, water heater and A/C unit, so you could have a comfortable stay even when you felt like you were taking a step back to a simpler time. Waking up to goats and chickens walking around the front yard was pretty neat, too :-)

5.0 "Best Experience!"

We had the best experience staying in the DH Lawrence Cabin! The location was remote, just as we wanted, but it was a very short drive to everywhere we wanted to go (Taos, Rio Grande del Norte, the Rio Grande Gorge, the DH Lawrence Ranch, etc.) Sia and Erik were excellent hosts who provided fresh eggs for us daily and let us help ourselves to the herbs, goji berries, and veggies growing in their gardens. The stars were awesome, and the cabin was really cute and immaculate (though a little small). Next time we will stay in one of the bigger cabins, and there will be a next time! This is the perfect place for you if you want to get away from it all and experience living on a sustainable farm. We loved the chickens, guinea hens, goats, and the wwoofers!! Overall, this was an incredibly wonderful experience. Thank you Sia and Erik!

5.0 "Enchanting Cabin!"

We couldn't have asked for a better experience! We did arrive in the area about 15 minutes after dark (Elizabeth had cautioned about that, but one of us in our party wanted to continue visiting with an old friend; not such a good idea! The little dirt roads and turns are difficult for newbies in the dark.) Elizabeth came to get us and guide us in and was most gracious about it. The entire setting was enchanting! The cabin is small but very comfy for two. We were pleased to see authentic furnishings inside, but an updated shower, too, a working stove and oven, a frig, a coffee pot, soft, warm, comfy bedding and a Franklin stove to make a toasty home on very cool evenings! Elizabeth and Eric were warm and fascinating hosts! We sought out their company several times, which was an unexpected bonus! Solar panels, profuse flower gardens surrounding, a puppy, a porch with comfy chairs and a candle lantern on the table near-by inviting us for chats, quiet times, and star-gazing, subtle wind chimes, no chemicals around inside or out, a covered picnic table was site for breakfast, hand-made fences, old-timey farm equipment hanging about from days gone by, a firepit with benches surrounding, chickens laying fresh eggs, a working organic goji berry farm, apple trees and vegie garden, a secluded trail to hike that led deep into a Ponderosa pine forest with a clear, cool stream, young folks putting in time to help things run in exchange for a place to stay. The valley surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Quiet. Clean, crisp air. The peace was perfect. Thank you so very much, Elizabeth and Eric!! We hope to return again and again!

5.0 "Brings Back Good Memories"

During my five day stay in the cabin, I was reminded many times of childhood experiences in my parents log cabin in the Maryland woods. The quiet nights, dusty dirt roads, well water, bird songs, buzzing insects, and even a mouse. I was invited to gather salad greens in the garden and given eggs for breakfast. Everyone was very friendly but gave me space to enjoy much needed solitude. The only drawback to staying here was the time required to drive to destinations on my itinerary. The hot springs at Ojo Caliente were an hour and half drive. Los Alamos was two hours away. Abiquiu, Georgia O'Keeffe's home, was another two hours. Still, it was worth driving the distance in order to enjoy my peaceful little cabin. Fittingly, I reread Lady Chatterley's Lover during the TV free nights.

5.0 "Unique Place"

I couldn't have loved this place more. These were the kindest most welcoming people on the most enchanted land. In the DH Lawrence cabin, I was incredibly inspired, got so much work done, and every time I emerged from my cocoon was amazed at the beauty of the land all over again. I wish there were more places like the Taos Goji Cabins, but the uniqueness of it makes it so special. I loved the presence of the organic farmers, and the wild timeless land. I will be back.

5.0 "Wonderful stay at The Farm"

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the farm! Eric and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts and the farm was just as pictured, nestled in a mountain valley at an elevation of 7,400 feet. The weather in late August was perfect, with highs in the 70-80s and lows in the 50s. The D. H. Lawrence cabin was just right, with a comfortable bed and a small, but well-appointed kitchen. The location was perfect-- near enough to Taos and many other places in northern NM, but away from the touristy feel that so many places have. It was a much-needed respite from my chaotic life at home. Lying in the hammock, listening to the chickens and sheep while reading or knitting was so very relaxing. I had the additional pleasure of chatting with Eric & Elizabeth's daughter and her two lovely children. And then there were the WWOOFers! What a great group of young people there to learn about organic farming methods. It was lovely to enjoy my morning coffee with them, or share a glass of wine in the evening. Eric & Elizabeth have so many plans for additions and improvements to the farm in the next year. I can't wait to visit again next summer!
